A binary hidden Markov model on spatial network for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis disease spreading pattern analysis

چکیده
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurological disease that starts at focal point and gradually spreads to other parts of the nervous system. One main clinical symptoms ALS muscle weakness. To study spreading patterns weakness, we analyze spatiotemporal binary strength data, which indicates whether observed strengths are impaired or healthy. We propose hidden Markov model-based approach assumes status depends on two latent states. The model enables us estimate incidence rate probability state transition. Specifically, latter modeled by logistic autoregression in spatial network susceptible muscles follows process. proposed flexible allow both historical conditions their relationships be included analysis. parameters, provide an iterative algorithm maximize sparse-penalized likelihood with bias correction, use Viterbi label apply patients' data from EMPOWER Study.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in a Patient with Behçet’s Disease
Behçet’s disease is a multisystem vasculitis. Its neurological involvement mostly includes parenchymal and non-parenchymal central nervous system manifestations. Peripheral nervous system presentations are rare. A 32-yr-old male patient who fulfilled the international study group criteria for Behçet’s disease, referred to our center with walking difficulty and repeated falling downs. Neurologi...

متن کاملSporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. A clinical analysis
Objective. To illustrate that sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) may be caused by ischemia in the intraparenchymal territory of the anterior spinal artery (ASA) and/or anterior-ventral spinal arteries (AVSAs). Case report. A 56-year-old woman presented clinical data of spinal and bulbar forms of ALS. Previously she was attended in several neurological centers. Results. In 2002 the pat...
متن کاملAmyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: A Focus on Disease Progression
Since amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) was discovered and described in 1869 as a neurodegenerative disease in which motor neuron death is induced, a wide range of biomarkers have been selected to identify therapeutic targets. ALS shares altered molecular pathways with other neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and Parkinson's diseases. However, the molecular targets...
متن کاملLyme disease serology in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Lyme disease is sometimes part of the differential diagnosis for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Herein we report on 414 individuals with ALS at the Massachusetts General Hospital who underwent laboratory testing for Lyme disease. Twenty-four (5.8%) were seropositive, but only 4 (0.97%) had confirmed past immunoreactive infection. Two of these patients received ceftriaxone for 1 month with...
